About The Big Kahuna Pergola Kit

If you have been searching for the right pergola kit you can now stop your search! The Big Kahuna is the one.

We have been in the business of constructing pergolas for years, and have perfected this design to make it a strong and lasting pergola that will stand the test of time for years to come. With its beefy 6X6 posts, double 2X8 beams, 2X8 rafters, 2X6 angle braces, and 2X2 top slats, it commands attention when placed in the backyard or garden. On each Big Kahuna Pergola, we notch each post to a depth of 1 inch in order to make a more secure connection between the beam and post. We also notch the rafters over the beams to take away the lateral motion usually found with cheaper pergolas that are not notched. This equates to a solid pergola that is aesthetically pleasing and will hold up to the harshest elements. This pergola, just like the rest of our models, is built per order in the USA with precision and pride in knowing that upon installation this pergola kit will go together with ease.

If you are comparison shopping beware of other online retailers that sell pergola kits that are mass produced in China with cheap lumber, coated zinc hardware, and steel plates that hold rafters together, and have complicated assembly instructions. The truth is that these types of kits just will not last. Here at pergoladepot.com we never use any inferior materials or building practices such as these. We produce our pergolas with the mission of uncompromising quality, and have taken every step to make certain that your pergola kit will be easy to install, and stand the test of time no matter which part of the country you live in.

Our kits were originally designed to be used in the Central Florida area where we have to deal with extreme weather situations all year round such as:

  • Hurricanes
  • The second highest air salt content in the world
  • Daily Summer Rain/Thunder Storms
  • Tornadoes
  • Winter Drought Conditions

These elements can be detrimental to the life of the materials used in outdoor products. So as you can see we have good reason to be sure that our pergolas were strongly designed with quality materials that could stand up to these harsh elements.

As with all of our kits, we have two different lumber options to choose from; #1 grade .40 ACQ Marine Grade Pressure Treated Pine, or Rough Sawn Western Red Tight Knot Cedar. We only use 316 stainless steel hardware to prevent rotting. Every kit comes complete with all pre-cut, pre-drilled lumber that is pre-marked for easy assembly. It also includes a set of step-by-step instructions to guide you through the assembly process. Our kits are so easy to assemble that two people can easily have most kits set up in four hours or less with absolutely no construction knowledge whatsoever. It's that easy!

So choose your size, and your end cut preference. Then decide if the pergola will be going on a patio, or into the ground, and before you know it you will be enjoying your backyard under a beautiful pergola cut specifically for you, at an Average Joe price.
