pergolasThank you very much for purchasing a do it yourself pergola kit from Average Joe’s Pergola Depot. We appreciate your business, and we are here to help you in any way possible. Make sure before you get started, you have: a helper, a hammer, a stepladder, a screw gun, a pencil, a posthole digger, a ¾” wrench, a level, and a tape measure.

Read this entire Instruction sheet before beginning so you can get a feel for what you will be doing. If take your time and follow these instructions you can do it. We have faith in you!

If you are installing this kit on a concrete patio, we advise that you use a 4X4 Galvanized post base on each post secured with ½” red head concrete anchors which can be purchased from your local hardware store. You will need some additional tools for this. Ask your hardware salesman for instructions on how to install them.

If you have any questions we are only an email or phone call away.

Step By Step Assembly Instructions for The Visor Pergola Kit

  • Step 1 - Remove all of the pieces from the packaging
  • Step 2 - Lay out all parts next to where you will be installing the pergola.
  • Step 3 - With yourself on one side and your helper on the other, pick up one of the rafters that will be going parallel to the wall and set it against the wall exactly where you would like the pergola to be.
  • Step 4 - Hold your level on the top of it to make sure it is nice and level.
  • Step 5 - Mark the notch in the bottom of the rafter on both sides against the wall. (This will show you where to connect the beam that protrudes from the wall.)
  • Step 6 - Take one of the beams with the metal L bracket on the top and screw it into the wall with the top of the beam lined up perfectly inside the lines that you just scribed onto the wall. If you are going into concrete you will need ¼” screws that are designed to go into concrete and a special drill bit to pre-drill the holes. These can be found at any home improvement center. The stainless steel screws provided with this pergola kit will not work in concrete!
  • Step 7 - Screw in the screws that go in the predrilled holes on the sides of the beams against the wall.
  • Step 8 - Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other side
  • Step 9 - install the 2X2 angle brackets from the bottom of the beams to the wall and secure with the screws provided
  • Step 10 - install the 2 rafters on the X marks on the beams and screw them down through the pre-drilled holes.
  • Step 11 - Install the 2X2 top slats on the X marks on top of the rafters and screw them down through the pre-drilled holes.

You’re Done!
